Samson Philipps
With just two instruments, Philipp Bucholtz (keyboards, synthesisers) and Samuel Schmassmann (drums) create a dense, cinematic sound that goes far beyond the sum of its parts. Balancing analogue warmth with electronic accents, the Zurich duo blends contemporary jazz with influences from drum’n’bass, jungle, trip-hop and ambient music. Their creative symbiosis is driven by hypnotic Rhodes lines and intricate drum patterns. After winning the Audience Award at the ZKB Jazz Prize Festival in 2025, Samson Philipps released their debut album, Once Upon a Now, this spring on Berlin-based label XJAZZ! Music.
