Fatoumata Diawara
One of the leading voices of the Malian music scene, Fatoumata Diawara blends Wassoulou traditions with funk, afrobeat, jazz and rock. A multifaceted artist, she began her career in dance and film before attracting attention in 2007 in the title role of the musical Kirikou et Karaba. In 2011, she released her debut album, Fatou, the starting point for a fascinating and versatile discography. Her engaged lyrics – written and sung in Bambara – are brought to life on stage through electrifying guitar playing and a powerful, universal presence. Equally at home across genres, she has collaborated with Herbie Hancock, Gorillaz, Disclosure, Mulatu Astatke and Matthieu Chedid (-M-) as part of the Lamomali collective. It was with this project that she made her Montreux debut in 2017, before returning under her own name in 2019 and 2021.
