Il Mago Del Gelato
Blending American jazz-funk, afrobeat and the atmosphere of a 1960s Italian film, Milanese quartet Il Mago Del Gelato invites listeners on a journey. The band’s name pays tribute to a bar on Via Padova in Milan, a neighbourhood meeting place where languages and backgrounds converge. It perfectly reflects the cultural curiosity that runs through their music. Percussion, horns, synthesisers, backing vocals and vocoder come together in a groove that is at once infectious and dense, vintage and contemporary. Having emerged from Milan’s underground venues, they have played extensively across Italy and abroad before catching the attention of Rolling Stone, which selected them for its Class of 2023, highlighting some of the year’s most promising artists.
