Mino Cinelu
Percussionist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Mino Cinelu embodies a borderless approach to jazz, drawing as much on world music as on funk, pop and gospel. Born in Paris to a French mother and Martinican father, he moved to New York at the age of 24, where he was discovered by Miles Davis, with whom he toured and recorded the album We Want Miles(1982). What followed was a career alongside Sting, Weather Report, Kate Bush, Stevie Wonder and Peter Gabriel, earning him the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. A regular at the Montreux Jazz Festival, where he performed with Herbie Hancock in 1989, Mino Cinelu returned to the festival this summer alongside Marcus Miller for a tribute to Miles Davis.
